Violence Prevention

Through our Violence Prevention program, we target children who are at risk for violence through a series of programs and services.  There are many risk factors that can predict violent behavior in youth.  Some of these factors include criminal activity, exposure to violence in the home, alienation from community, substance abuse and other anti-social and aggressive behavior.  To address this need, we assign young people to a therapeutic mentor who will act as a good role model and help the student with anger management and decision making skills.  The therapeutic mentor and the client address responsibility, focusing on the client’s awareness of the consequences of their actions.   The therapeutic mentor will also encourage civic mindedness in the client, as the two will engage in a variety of community service activities.  We also offer Anger Management Groups and teach conflict resolution skills.
