Study Buddies is a group designed to assist children with their homework. The Study Buddies program is held twice a week during the school year at Youth Services, and is available for kids in Grades 1 – 8. Kids attending the group are assigned a volunteer study buddy to assist them with their homework. Study Buddies for the children are either volunteers from local high schools or generous adult volunteers from the community.
To meet the needs of some of the parents of our Study Buddies clients, Oakton Community College has partnered with Youth Services to provide free English Language Lessons at Youth Services on the same nights as Study Buddies.
Many of the parents have children younger than first grade however, so Youth Services offers a group called Little Buddies for youngsters ages 3 – 6. Little Buddies is free child care for these parents while they develop essential language tools.
Study Buddies begins at 6:30pm and lasts until 8pm, Monday and Wednesday evening. Children must be registered with the program to attend and they must bring homework to the group.
