This group offers parents the opportunity meet and share experiences and information with other parents dealing with this difficult disorder. There are eight sessions. Guests are brought in to share their expertise when parents request such information. We provide dinner. Child care is offered for children 5 and older. Many of the kids enjoy coming because the focus is not on them - the bi-polar child - but on the parents. Kids have the opportunity to socialize with other children, play pool, video games, watch a movie and do crafts.
Youth Services of Glenview/Northbrook receives a generous grant from the Jean Paul Ohadi Foundation on an annual basis to offer support groups to parents with children suffering from bipolar disorder. The grant also allows for us to provide specialized respite and mentoring services to children and adolescents dealing with bipolar disorder.
The Jean Paul Ohadi Foundation was established in 1998 in memory of Jean Paul Ohadi. This young man suffered from bipolar disorder and died at the age of 19. The foundation strives to assist in the diagnosis and treatment of bipolar disorder.
