Many children are in need of adult friendship and support. The Befriend A Youth Program matches children with an adult volunteer who provides the youth with a healthy responsible role model. Big brothers and sisters meet once a week with their little brothers and sisters to talk and/or participate in a mutually enjoyable activity. Matches are made based on the interests of the volunteer and the youngster. Activities can range from helping out with homework, baking cookies or washing a car, to special outings such as a ball game or museum trip. Volunteers must successfully complete a 12 hour training program and make a commitment of at least one year. Children are selected because they have a missing parent or a parent who is unable to provide the child with the time, attention or activities the child may need. Children range in age between 7 and 16.
“I am very grateful to Youth Services for the many contributions you are making to our community. In a world that often seems indifferent, this agency cares.” - Parent
